The Salianta Story
In 2011, my brother Jon and I were working at Willow Creek Care Home in Portland, Oregon, where we saw firsthand the realities of aging. Many of the residents—both elderly and younger—were trapped in a cycle of medication, isolation, and inactivity. Aging had become synonymous with pills and loneliness rather than vitality and fulfillment. We couldn’t ignore what we saw. While science hadn’t yet found a way to stop aging, we knew that the key to aging well wasn’t hidden in another prescription. It was in proper nutrition, movement, and connection. We felt a responsibility to make a change.
Something New, Something different
Determined to make a difference, Jon and I launched a program at Willow Creek to bring real nourishment and physical activity into daily life. We focused on two simple but powerful principles: ensuring residents received the nutrients their bodies needed to function at their best and making sure they moved enough to keep their joints strong and mobile. The results were undeniable. Within just three weeks, the change was transformative—residents had more energy, felt happier, and moved with greater ease. That was the moment we realized something crucial: this problem wasn’t just affecting the elderly—it was affecting all of us. The modern world encourages us to stay indoors, eat poorly, and sacrifice our health in pursuit of productivity. We knew we had to do more.
